Previewing	Publishing
uses your preview settings to create a sample copy of your site in your preview directory	uses your preview settings to create your live web site
is done before you publish	is done only after you have previewed your site, usually several times
creates a site visible only to you (technically, anybody can see it, but only if they guess your preview directory name. Unlikely.)	creates a site anybody can see
creates a temporary site that is deleted after a few hours	creates a permanent site
takes just a few moments	can take several minutes
is the best way to test out changes to your site. Use it as much as you like	should only be done when when you need to do it, and only after you have tested changes using the preview site
